The 2016 Barbera d'Alba is made with simple criteria in order to maintain the easy freshness of the primary fruit. Fruit is picked from the Bricco Manescotto vineyard in La Morra. This sites gets most of its sunshine during the first half of the day. The Barbera grape loves a little extra heat and south-facing exposures. The vines are 25-years-old. The wine undergoes partial malolactic fermentation and is transferred back into stainless steel. It opens to very ripe fruit tones of blackberry preserves and cherry confit. The quality of fruit is generous and accessible. Don't wait more than two or three years to drink this wine.

A radiant, supple wine the 2016 Barbera d'Alba offers lovely depth in a lush, rich style that offers considerable near and medium term appeal. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, smoke and menthol notes build into the racy finish. This is very nicely done, not to mention one of the highlights among Scavino's entry-level offerings.
