The 2019 Corton La Vigne Au Saint Grand Cru has quite a plush nose of redcurrant and crushed strawberry fruit, orange pith and touches of leather. The palate is quite effervescent on the entry (perhaps with just a little CO2?), but there is a lattice of lace-like tannins, with pretty and very pure red fruit and a little Kirsch toward the spicy finish. Bearing both good weight and length, this is a very appealing, fruit-driven, sweet Corton Grand Cru that will drink young, but may well age better than you expect. The most muscular and introverted of these bottled wines, the 2019 Corton Grand Cru La Vigne Au Saint unfurls in the glass with scents of plums, rose petals, peonies, orange rind, spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's serious and multidimensional, with impressive reserves of fruit and tannin. If Croix's Beaune bottlings are comparatively approachable out of the gates, especially in a vintage such as this, the Corton will demand some patience.
The 2019 Corton La Vigne Au Saint Grand Cru includes 35% stems. It has a perfumed, violet-scented bouquet that is well defined but needs a little more cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. There is a tangible build or crescendo in this Corton, and it is very peppery on the grippy finish, leaving the mouth tingling. Excellent.
