Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2021-2038, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Jul 2021

A younger register of flavours here, where the tannins press in more clearly through the mouth as the wine travels through the palate. Just starting to open up, although still young, but you start to see the horizon, the possibilties. Really enjoyable, finely boned, still young, charming and seductive. There was rain here in September 2012, more than in the St Estephe and Pauillac area, but this is lovely, with freshly cured leather and tobacco leaf along with blackberry and raspberry fruits. 50% new oak. Arnaud d'Arfeuille started in February 2013, making this his second vintage back at the family estate.

A small step back from the 2015, the 2014 Château La Serre is a classic, charming, medium to full-bodied 2014 that offers lots of red currant, caramelized cherry, tobacco leaf and dried flower aromas and flavors. It has an old-school vibe, solid elegance, and notable balance. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

The 2014 La Serre often shows well out of barrel, but regrettably I rarely encounter it in bottle. It has a light, tertiary bouquet with tightly wound black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with light grainy tannin, pretty blackberry and spice notes on the back-palate, although I have found other vintages of La Serre to show more substance and length on the finish. As such, drink this over the next two or three years.

The 2014 La Serre is a pretty, light- to medium-bodied Saint-Émilion to drink now and over the next few years. The flavors are a bit dried out, and the wine lacks the depth that is found in the more successful wines of the vintage.
