2013 Chablis Vaudesir

The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir comes from 0.5 hectare and for the first time ever it is aged entirely in used barrel for 10 months before being transferred into tank for another eight months. I severely underscored this last year. It offers superb definition on the nose: citrus lemon, cold-granite scents, reserved but beautifully focused. The palate is clean and precise, hints of lime and orange zest on the entry, a slight chalkiness to the texture and segues into a lively saline finish that lingers long in the mouth. Wow – what a lovely Vaudésir this has blossomed into!

Mint, chamomile, honey, hazelnuts and dried fruits jump from the glass in the 2013 Chablis Vaudésir. Underlying veins of acidity give the Vaudésir its energy, tension and pure drive. This is one of the more reticent wines at Moreau this year, but it also offers plenty of promise. In 2013, the Vaudésir was fermented entirely in tank.

Aromas and flavors of oily peach, candied apricot and exotic flowers. Larger-scaled than the 2012 version if not as silky as the earlier vintage. Spicy, dry and tactile, showing a slight youthful bitterness--even a touch of tannins--owing to its considerable phenolic content. But long on the aftertaste.
