The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Vignes Franches is a brilliant wine from this small, enclosed vineyard. Bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries, rose petals, licorice, spices and orange rind, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, with supple tannins, fine depth at the core and a sensual, gourmand but vibrant profile.

Poor, thin terre blanche limestone soils. 60% whole clusters. Cask sample. There’s a cool freshness to the ripe fruit. A velvety texture of raspberries and dark-red cherries. Infanticide to pull the cork on this one too early. Firm structure. (MH)
The 2020 Beaune Les Vignes Franches 1er Cru, from very limestone soils, was picked on 20 August, contains 60% whole bunch and matured in 50% new oak. Dark cherries, iodine and light minerally scents unfurl on the nose, just a faint hint of liquorice in the background, this is complex and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, good body and density here with a fine bead of acidity with satisfying grip on the Pommard-like finish. Excellent.
