30% new oak – light toast – and only 3,300 bottles and 200 magnums produced (50% of a normal crop; they were hit twice by hail – as well as the notorious rains of 2014). Mid ruby. Haunting, smoky nose. There is no shortage of character or impact here even after tasting grands crus burgundies. Very fine and precise with tar more obvious than roses. Dry but confident, neat finish – a wine that demands food. Lissom and convincing. A precise, compact terroir expression with no shortage of fine palate impact. (JR)

The 2014 Barolo Cannubi perhaps shows less textural richness in this vintage. What it lacks in volume, it makes up for in beautiful aromatic intensity. The bouquet offers territory-driven tones of forest berry, wild rose and dried violets. The freshness and the brightness of those aromas are well intact. The mouthfeel is lean, but it does have ample structure at the back with bright acidity and polished tannins. This expression of Cannubi from Chiara Boschis can be described in a single word: elegant.

Barolo. A shade lighter than the Mosconi of the same vintage, which is more lustrous. Beautiful cool raspberry nose with a hint of spice from oak. Succulent, fine and truly lithe with firm, polished tannins that never override the fruit. Still tight and in need of more age to open up. Super-elegant. (WS)

The 2014 Barolo Cannubi from Chiara Boschis is soft, supple and surprisingly giving at this early stage. Exotic spice and citrus overtones add to wine's considerable allure. Succulent red cherry, cinnamon, orange peel and rose petal notes all lift from the glass in this gracious, sublime Barolo. This is one of the more accessible 2014s I tasted during my fall trip. Given its midweight structure, the 2014 Cannubi may turn out to have a relatively short life, but then again, Nebbiolo often surprises. Today, the wine is exceptionally beautiful.
