Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2027-2047, Jancis Robinson MW, Apr 2025

50% new oak. A blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Deep purple. Spicy, plush, dense. The tannin here is firm and polished. Good richness with plenty of structured tannin to hold it up. Neat finish. (SCJ)

The 2022 La Magalena is a 60/40 split of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, all from Oakville. It offers more cassis, graphite, lead pencil, and sweet earth-like nuances as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's balanced, has ripe tannins, a beautiful sense of elegance, and a great finish. You'd be hard-pressed to know this came from a challenging, heatwave-dominated vintage. It should have 15-20 years of longevity.

The 2022 La Magdalena Red Wine is less effusive on the nose than the 2021, featuring more green tobacco and cherries. It's still not overly herbal, with great fruit. Fresh and vibrant, it's medium to full-bodied, framed by modest, silky tannins. Possessing a long, mouthwatering finish, it's already fun to drink, although it won't be released until September 2025.

The softer, plump, medium to full-bodied 2022 La Magdalena is another success. Based on 51% Cabernet Franc and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a rounded, supple mouthfeel, some velvety tannins, solid red and black fruits, and some spicy, herbal background nuances.
