Based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, the 2022 Château Fonbadet reveals classic Pauillac notes of currants, cassis, graphite, and freshly sharpened pencil, with a kiss of leather in the background. Medium to full-bodied, it’s round, pure, and focused on the palate, with ripe tannins and an elegant, fine-grained texture. Vinified in concrete tanks, it was aged for 16 months in 50% new French oak, with the rest in once-used barrels. 2,083 cases produced.

The 2022 Fonbadet has a focused and expressive bouquet with pencil shavings infusing the black fruit. This is perhaps more classic in style than others. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry and decent weight, though it would benefit from more complexity on the intense, almost burly finish. Afford this at least a couple of years in bottle.
Intense, concentrated, a ton of Pauillac typicity in the quality and the character of the tanins. Earthy, with chalk board, crayon, pencil lead, good firm tannins, lovely. Great appellation signature, and this has power and concentrated deep plum and cassis fruits. Will age well, and should be good value, an absolute buy.
