Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2026-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2024

A rich red/garnet color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Vallocchio is ripe and layered with notes of fresh black cherries, pine, licorice, and dried flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it springs to life on the palate with wonderful energy and concentration, ripe tannins, saline, energetic fresh acidity, and a long finish. A super-impressive wine, it’s only going to improve with a few years in the cellar. Drink 2026-2040. Tenuta Fanti’s Brunello is sourced from 10 hectares of vineyards within the Castelnuova dell’Abate area, where the Fanti family and estate practice organic viticulture.

The Fanti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio reveals a pronounced savory side with tobacco leaf, roasted chestnut husk, dark plum, honeycomb or honey-roasted almond. The tannins are resolved, almost silky at this point, and there is plenty of concentrated fruit to build up the rich textural impact. The alcohol content clocks in at 15%, but it is nicely folded into the wine's dark fruity fiber. This is a 9,500-bottle release.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio is savory and earthy in the glass, with a beguiling blend of ashen stones, underbrush and hints of animal musk that open the stage, giving way to mentholated black cherries. Velvety and nearly creamy in feel, this smooths over the palate with a rich blend of ripe red and black fruits, underscored by saline minerals. Grippy tannins mount toward the close. The 2019 finishes structured and impressively long, with a lifting air of pine shavings and a bitter tinge that lingers on and on. Lose this in the cellar.

Deep ruby with orange tinges. Dark, ripe fruit that is a little stalky on the nose. Plush, deep tangy cherry with a minty oak nose. An attractive whole and ready now. (WS)
