The 1993 Campaccio Riserva (a Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend aged 16 months in oak casks) is a fine new offering from Vittorio Fiore's Terrabianca. It possesses a deep ruby color, as well as a sweet black cherry and pain grille-scented nose. In the mouth, it reveals medium body, and riper, sweeter fruit than is found in the other offerings, as well as less angularity and austerity. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. One of my favorite Tuscan wineries, Terrabianca has fashioned this pleasant wine, which, to my palate, falls a bit short. As the score suggests, there is nothing wrong with the quality of this example, but it reflects the angular, tannic personality of its vintage. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. The 1993 Campaccio, a proprietary red aged for 24 months in small barrels, reveals a Bordeaux-like lead pencil, vanillin, currant and cherry-scented nose, medium to full body, excellent richness and depth, and good underlying acidity and tannin to give the wine delineation and balance. It is a purely made, spicy, rich wine for drinking over the next 6-7 years. This excellent winery burst on the scene with some sensational 1990 offerings, followed by some promising 1991s, an even more impressive accomplishment given such an uneven vintage.
