Leflaive's 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru was vinified and matured in a single 300-liter barrel made by Stéphane Chassin. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, honeycomb, hazelnuts, buttered toast, orange oil and baking spices, it's full-bodied, rich and layered, with lovely mid-palate amplitude, tangy acids and chalky structuring extract. Concluding with a long, resonant finish, it will be to all intents and purposes unobtainable.

The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru was served at the Domaine from a Coravin’d bottle, the first time I had tasted this Holy Grail at the property. As usual, it was matured in a new barrel tailored to the quantity produced that year. It has an intriguing nose, the imprimatur of the wood more tangible than the Chevalier-Montrachet as you would expect, hints of almond and praline complementing the yellow fruit, gaining intensity and precision with every passing moment. The palate has exquisite, ethereal balance with a fine bead of acidity, so much concentration yet harmonious, with a silky smooth texture and ineffably pure finish. Amazing persistency - this is an awe-inspiring Montrachet. Closure: Diam 30
