The opaque ruby/purple-colored 1995 Merlot offers a promising nose of unevolved, sweet black cherry fruit intermingled with scents of toasty oak and spice. Medium-bodied, with excellent concentration, fine purity, and overall equilibrium, this flawless, juicy, symmetrical Merlot should be at its best after another year or two of cellaring; it will keep for a decade. Full red-ruby. Vinous aromas of raspberry, licorice, smoke and grilled nuts. Fat, ripe and full but quite fresh in the mouth, thanks to juicy acidity. Not hugely concentrated but quite youthfully unevolved and light on its feet. Finishes with a hint of exotic fruit and slow-building, firm tannins. Needs a year or two of additional bottle aging.
