The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru is a regal, vertical wine endowed with tremendous presence and sheer class. Dark, rich and quite expansive in feel, the Richebourg speaks with authority. Gravel, lavender and dried herbs meld into a core of intense purplish/black fruit. Readers should not plan on opening a bottle anytime soon, as in I envy anyone buying the 2019 today who is young; enjoy it many years from now, when it is in its prime.

The fireworks continue with the 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru, a striking wine that unfurls in the glass with aromas of raspberries, blackberries and plums mingled with exotic spices, dark chocolate, orange rind and peonies. Full-bodied, rich and muscular, it's deep and broad-shouldered, its ample core of fruit framed by prodigious reserves of ripe, powdery tannin and lively girdling acids. Impeccably balanced and built for the long haul, it will demand—and amply reward—patience.
Cask sample. Rather wonderful in terms of richness and breadth, with spice underneath. Glows on the palate. Many different layers of flavour. Tension. (JR)
