This wine has been in bottle since the end of August 2024 and hit the market at the end of that year. The Giuseppe Rinaldi 2023 Langhe Freisa is expressive and bright with grilled watermelon and grenadine. It also shows sweet cherry and raspberry followed by bitter almond. Dolcetto is sometimes planted near Nebbiolo to guard against the Flavescence dorée disease that is spread by phytoplasmas (bacteria-like microorganisms). Dolcetto is less vulnerable to the disease and so is Freisa; that's why additional acreage of this native grape was planted. Better yet, we get more of this delicious wine, which is always a personal favorite.

The 2023 Langhe Freisa is the most complex of the three entry-level 2023s I tasted at Rinaldi. Crushed flowers, dried herbs, mint, licorice and rosewater give the 2023 lovely aromatic complexity to match its mid-weight personality. The Freisa was fermented in stainless steel and aged between five and six months in cask. It's an undeniably attractive wine from Rinaldi.
