This monopole Premier Cru is a fifth of the size of Boillot’s prized Clos de la Mouchère. The 0.63-hectare walled vineyard is a lieu-dit within Les Cras, with stony soils. It’s often a leaner style of Meursault, and that is true in 2023, with a touch of flinty reduction at this youthful stage. Beyond this, however, the wine has an appealing suppleness, with a nutty edge and vibrant stone fruit that surrounds a mineral backbone, building to a long, mouth-wateringly saline finish.

Sweet spot Outstanding - A cool, pure and airy nose features notes of various white orchard fruit, acacia, gardenia and a lovely spice nuance. There is outstanding density to the gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm acid spine supporting the balanced and harmonious finale. This is really quite classy and while it will need to develop better depth, that again should just be a matter of patience. Drink 2033+
The 2023 Meursault Clos Richemont 1er Cru is a rich, dense wine. Strong tropical accents play off a core of tangerine peel, passion fruit, brioche and sweet spice. It’s a wine for readers who enjoy the more opulent side of Côte de Beaune whites. There is certainly no shortage of power, depth or structure here.
A fine even lemon yellow. Racy on the nose, not as immediately distinguished as Goutte d’Or but the qualities creep up on you. More linear, a suggestion of salinity., with layers of a pure limestone white fruit, plenty of dry extract affirms Henri Boillot. Very persistent.
