Cask sample. The aroma is quite marked by the oak, with cedary citrus underneath. The oak gives a savoury aspect. On the palate, oak spice entwined with tart, tangy citrus. Acidity not quite in sync with the wine, for my taste. A bit lean but persistent. (JH)

Cask sample. An elegant Charmes which lives up to its name, but is not at all weighty or lacking drive. Purity of fruit, mineral undertow. Oak is beautifully judged for the concentration of the wine. A fine Meursault premier cru. Expensive – but that’s what it is these days. (AWH)
