Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2025-2033, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2025

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is airy and nuanced in the glass. Crushed rocks, mint, white pepper and slate are all finely sketched. Readers will find a wine of subtlety. There’s a touch of reduction that I suspect will always be part of the wine’s personality. Clean, saline notes extend the crystalline finish. The 2018 is quite the introvert today.

A terrific effort in a vintage that often produced rather open-knit, soft white Burgundies, the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru continues to perform very well. Mingling aromas of sweet citrus and stone fruits with notions of oatmeal, anise and flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, exhibiting excellent depth at the core and impressive precision. Racy, charming and attractively complete, it stands out from its peers.

The 2018 Corton Grand Cru just lacks a bit of bandwidth on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, but there is less terroir expression than some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with some stalky elements on the entry. It is missing a little density and grip towards the finish that feels a little drier than I would have liked at this early juncture. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
