Notably ripe aromas include those of poached plum, warm earth and a touch of the sauvage. Once again there is round and suave mouthfeel to the bigger-bodied and more powerful flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the long if slightly warm finish that is shaped by dense but fine-grained tannins. There is charming ripeness to this wine, yet it remains very accessible. Complex aromas of mulberry fruit are coloured with hints of earth, smoke, and leather, and this evocative aroma continues on the palate with a sweetness to the somewhat un-Corton-like fruit. The texture is silky, yet there is an impressive core of density and power. The grapes are from a parcel of mature vines at mid-slope above Aloxe; they are partly destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in new wood.
One barrel. There is a more vivid purple colour than the Ile de Vergelesses and the oak is slightly more evident. Three quarters whole bunch. This is a sturdy beast yet with an excellent fruit energy, dark raspberry and a little cherry, with a crushed strawberry effect that really shows the stems in the mouth. This is in a more powerful register than the Ile de Vergelesses but not necessarily nobler. Excellent length at the finish.
