Smoke, earth and a whiff of grapefruit on the slightly reduced nose; I might have picked this blind as a white wine. Then pliant and round on the palate, with a very fine-grained texture but also sound supporting acidity to the raspberry, smoke and fig flavors. Finishes sweet, smooth and long, with harmonious, noble tannins. Very attractive, satisfying wine even if it doesn't project the cut and precision of Clavelier's cru bottlings from the Cote de Nuits.

(racked and sulfited five days before my visit): Good full red. Complex, showy aromas of fig, spices, coffee, smoke and mocha. Large-scaled, round and sweet; the fullest and most expressive of these 2010s today, and harmonious already. Finishes with round tannins and smoky oak. "No punishment for the mouth," notes Clavelier. This soil-inflected Corton from marly soil could hardly be more different in style from the estate's cuvees from calcaire .
