FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

In 2022, Domaine Long-Depaquit’s monopole Grand Cru captures the balance of the vintage. It is the most mineral-driven cuvée in the range, with an elegant nose than ranges from lemon zest to white blossom, over a layer of wet crushed rock. On the palate, the wine reveals superb concentration, and is much broader and richer structure than the nose suggests. A backbone of acidity drives towards a beautiful finish full of tension, with hints of salinity that makes you salivate. It will need a few years before it shows its potential. Unfortunately, a large part of the vineyard (the lowest part, neighbouring Fèvre) is being replanted and volumes this year are therefore smaller than we’d have liked. It is nonetheless a fantastic showing – and is undoubtedly our favourite Grand Cru from Long Depaquit in 2022

Mid lemon yellow. A chiselled nose, powerful yet without perfumed. Picked on the right day. A little suggestion of passion fruit here, which adds complexity without taking us over the top. Moutonne has harnessed the ripeness very well and delivers a clear-cut intensity, as well as the ripeness of the fruit. Drink from 2030-2040.

The unofficial 'eighth grand cru climat', Moutonne is a very exciting wine in 2022. A very sophisticated grand cru with a complex combination of purity, lift and precision on both the nose and palate, freshened with saltiness and iodine notes to finish. Concentrated with ripe fruit character and a lovely balance between power and elegance really lifting this. Wait for several years before broaching. Tank sample, tasted blind.

(2.35 ha monopole that spans a parcel of vines situated in both Vaudésir and Preuses though 95% of it is in Vaudésir; the site is protected from the wind and often gives very ripe wines; ~25% new wood.) More moderate wood influence more easily allows the softly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, apricot and sweet almond paste along with limited Chablis typicity. The rich and quite full-bodied flavors also possess a beautiful texture that is succulent and generously proportioned while retaining good punch and balanced on the sneaky long finish. This is very much built-to-age and it's a wine with a proven track record for successfully doing so. Drink from 2032.
