Another weightless, gracious wine the 2008 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva impresses for its combination of understated power and elegance. Here the flavors take on slightly darker shades, along with sweet, balsamic notes that add complexity. Plums, black cherries, licorice and pine are some of the many notes that wrap around the sensual yet structured finish. There is a lot to like here.

Dark ruby with just the beginning of orange on the rim. Not very open on the nose yet. Sweet concentration, and bags of it. Dry tannins. Could do with a little more age. (WS)
