Punteggio 86/100 · Neal Martin, Jan 2022

The 2017 Pommard Clos des Pitures 1er Cru feels rather stilted on the nose. (A bit of TCA or just muddled stem addition?) The palate is medium-bodied with loose-knit tannins, quite mature and slightly oxidized. Is this representative? There is a slightly clumsy use of whole bunch here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Light crimson. Distinctive mix of red fruit and a touch of smoky reduction plus oak spice. Not sure how much of the flavour is barrel and how much reduction but there's quite a bit of dry spice. I think the oak is showing a little too much at this stage, though the fruit underneath is pretty and fresh. (JH)

The 2017 Pommard Clos des Poutures 1er Cru has a fresh, undergrowth-tinged bouquet that is a little loose-knit at the moment, though I am sure it will muster more cohesion with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is an elegant, beautifully poised Pommard with a pretty, peppery finish, the oak neatly embroidered. Not long-term, but certainly well crafted by Armand Heitz.
