The Poggio al Sole 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Casasilia is a certified organic expression of Sangiovese with fruit from a 15-hectare parcel at 300 to 500 meters in elevation. Compared to the 2018 vintage that I prefer, this wine is more immediate in personality with good depth but less overall sharpness. The aromas span dark fruit, dried cherry, old leather and blackcurrant. Production was lower in this vintage, with 5,500 bottles released.

The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Casasilia is perplexing. Advanced in color, the 2019 shows ripe dark fruit, plenty of new oak and sweet spice, with very modest depth and overall complexity.
