Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2035, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a well-defined and focused bouquet. The oak initially feels loud, displaying toasty notes that admittedly marry well with the reduction, and then, magically, it coalesces and becomes more and more vivid and animated with aeration. The palate is very well balanced, and then flavors of mango, clementine and a touch of ginger reflect the precocity of the growing season. It feels a little heavy toward the finish, possibly with some botrytized fruit, but it develops precision with aeration. Very promising. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. The 2015 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru offers up notes of buttered orchard fruit, peach and citrus rind, framed by toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with a textural attack that gives way to a rather diffuse mid-palate and somewhat rustic finish that seems to be marked both by oak tannin and the warmth of the vintage. This isn't one of the highlights of the Olivier Leflaive portfolio this year.
