2000 Cortaccio

The 2000 Cortaccia is 100% Cabernet from vineyards planted with cuttings from the neighboring Castello di Rampolla and from the vineyards of Piero Antinori. A deep and somber ruby with warm and expansive aromas of black currants, blackberries, graphite, and chocolate, it is concentrated, intense, and long on the palate, still a bit tightly wound and backward and a wine which will reward waiting. Drink: 2006-2018. The Farkas family’s Villa Cafaggio estate was the first to put Panzano, previously considered nothing more than an unimportant hamlet, on the map. The subsequent arrival of Castello dei Rampolla, Fontodi, and many others have consolidated the reputation of this part of Chianti Classico, but the memory of the 1971 Chianti Classico Riserva of this house lingers in the mind of those who had the good fortune to taste it.
