This is the last vintage of Alvina Pernot’s Saint-Romain, which has been the label’s opening gambit, so to speak. Fresh and pure, it’s zingy – driven by lemon citrus, offering a mouthful of crisp, just-ripe fruit. Aged in 20% new French oak and 20% amphorae (the rest old oak), 10 barrels were made. Outstanding value. The 2022 labels are one-offs, including a dedication to their son Pâris, who was born on 1st January 2022.

Here too the expressive nose of green apple, zest and soft wood influence is exuberantly fresh and bright. The beautifully textured, rich and caressing yet punchy flavors exude an appealing bead of minerality on the clean, moderately dry and vibrant finale. This could use better depth but a year or two of keeping should help. Drink 2026+
The 2022 Saint-Romain Village is aged 30% in amphora and the remainder in barrels. The succinct bouquet opens gradually in the glass with lemon curd, lime and hints of white chocolate in the background. The palate is well-balanced, somehow quite "sedate," and maybe needs more nerve on the finish. Yet it is finely crafted and will be delicious over the next 6-8 years.
10 barrels worth but 30% has been made in amphora. This comes from purchased fruit but will be the last year because there is not enough space in the winery. Clear pale colour. Light apple nose, clean and pure, no great weight, white apple fruit, medium length. Sound example.
