Aromas of dark cherries and red plums with dried herbs, spices, bark and nutmeg on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, dry and a little chewy with firm, chalky tannins and juicy dark fruit. Layered and structured. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Collepiano is incredibly pretty, with a whiff of wild strawberries complemented by chalk dust and sweet tobacco. This is pure class, silky and round, with brisk acidity motivating an elegant wave of ripe red and black fruits. Its spice box of a finish is long, leaving a web of fine-grained tannins tugging at the palate yet failing to slow the 2019’s momentum. The Collepiano will require a bit of cellaring to show its best.
Full bottle 1,404 g. Deep crimson. Firm, peppery, spicy and concentrated on the nose. Rich, earthy and sweet fruit with loads of gravelly tannins that really complement the concentrated fruit. A tiny bit port-like on the finish, but not overtly alcoholic. Pretty intense and takes your breath away a little. (WS)
