An elegant array is comprised of cool citrus rind, mineral reduction, quinine and white flowers. I very much like the intensity and fine detail to the highly energetic and overtly stony middle weight flavors that terminate in a clean, bone-dry and youthfully austere finale. This is lovely, and I particularly like the balance, though in contrast to the Fourchaume, this is a wine that's going to need at least a few years first.

The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose, offering crushed stone and subtle earthy scents; a faint touch of white flowers emerges with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and linear. A reserved, lightly spiced Chablis with a brisk, quite saline finish. It just needs a little more in the way of persistence. Tank sample. Herbal, grassy citrus. More creamy depth compared with the Mont de Milieu but just as much fruit zest and intensity. This should age well – it has the structure and depth to do so. At the moment it is all in embryo. (JH)
