The Brancaia 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione has a volatile character with apple skin, cherry tartlet and fresh raspberry. I am usually a fan of this punchy style, although in this case, the wine has a hard time moving beyond that rather monotone element. The tannins are firm but silky, and the wine offers a pretty dose of fresh acidity to close. The wine tastes great, but I am left wanting more from the bouquet.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is very nicely done. It offers terrific freshness and verve, both of which work well to balance its overt fruit. Blood orange, sweet spice, cedar and crushed flowers lend notable aromatic brilliance to this inviting, mid-weight wine.
Radda. 100% Sangiovese. Certified organic. Youthful mid ruby. Perfumed cherry with a hint of cocoa powder. Rich, juicy cherry-fruit palate with a big layer of grainy tannins that right now are a little demanding but add contrast to the lashings of juicy fruit. (WS)
The 2021 Chianti Classico is stunning on opening, pouring a jeweled magenta color, and cascades from the glass with aromas of lavender, cherry liqueur, black raspberry, and sweet forest earth. Open and pure, the palate is rounded and medium to full-bodied, with supple and polished tannins, even acidity, and a long finish with a hint of warmth. This stellar offering from the Brancaia team is a cut above for an entry wine. Drink 2025-2035. Brancaia is home to three estates for their wine label, two in the communes of Radda and Castellina in Chianti, and the third in Maremma. Bruno and Brigitte Widmer purchased the first parcels in Castellina in 1981 and expanded to Radda in 1989. Across the range, they are producing high-quality wines with a polished style and notable age-ability.
