The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a huge, hulking wine loaded with plums, smoke, mocha, chocolate and scorched earth. Excessively rustic and earthy, the 2007 captures very little, if any, of the sexiness of the vintage.

Deep ruby with orange rim. Savoury and quite compact. Intense and sweet and rich – not really the proper ingredients for ageing. Big tannins too. (WS)
