The second wine of Château Phelan Ségur is the 2020 Frank Phelan, a 60/40 split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that was all brought in from the middle of September to the 1st of October. Fresh, lively, medium-bodied, and forward, it has beautiful red fruits as well as floral and spicy nuances, supple, integrated tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. This pretty, elegant, already delicious Saint-Estèphe is perfect for drinking any time over the coming 10-15 years. As with the Grand Vin, it shines for its balance and class.

The 2020 Frank Phélan, which will be released in 2023, has a well-defined nose, hints of black olive tinging the black fruit with raspberry and mulberry surfacing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft opening, quite rounded and fleshy, perhaps missing a little tension on the finish. As such, it's an early-drinking Saint-Estèphe that should give several years' drinking pleasure.
