The 2019 Volnay Village is promising, mingling aromas of cherries and dark berry fruit with hints of rose petals and warm spices. Medium-bodied, concentrated and vibrant, it's built around powdery tannins and tangy acids, concluding with a penetrating finish. It's finer-boned than its richer, more muscular 2018 counterpart.

The 2019 Volnay Village has a clean and precise bouquet, a mixture of blackberry and raspberry fruit, briary and a light marine scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a dab of sour cherry on the entry, fine acidity, lively with orange rind and a pinch of black pepper towards the harmonious finish. This is a good "solid" Volnay without all the frills.
Two parcels in Les Grands Champs (used to be métayage with Fred Rossignol) and Les Pluchots close to premiers crus. Pluchots has just been replanted and the Grands Champs vines are 35+ years old. Cask sample. Mid crimson. High toned yet earthy. Real juice and cherry fruit – not the ethereal style but the earthy I’ve-been-here-for-ages style. Crackling and lots of personality. (JR)

Marquis d'Angerville is synonymous with the village of Volnay, having long made some of the village’s finest wines. Best known for its Premier Cru monopole vineyard, Clos des Ducs, this estate crafts fine-boned, elegant styles of Pinot Noir – wines that act as standard-bearers for the appellation.
