The 2005 Long Now possesses awesome richness, nuance and detail. A blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera, it sweeps across the palate with tons of dense, layered fruit. The wine's considerable richness covers the tannins nicely, but there is plenty of structure underneath. This is a gem from Giorgio Pelissero.

(a 50/50 blend of barbera and nebbiolo; aged for 18 months in new French barriques Saturated bright ruby. Open, direct aromas of black fruits, graphite, licorice and spicy oak. Sappy and fruit-driven, with dominant flavors of blackberry, licorice and spice complicated by leather and nutty oak. Dense and rather extractive wine, finishing with substantial tongue-dusting tannins. I always get the feeling I'm tasting an internationally styled wine that offers more body than soul.
