The 2014 Langhe La Villa is a blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Nebbiolo. Some 2,400 bottles were made, and that is 1,000 less than an average year because fruit selection was so rigorous in this difficult vintage. The wine presents a deep and super rich appearance with dark spice and thick black fruit. It's just a tad too rich and overdone, in my opinion, and the elegance of Nebbiolo has been taken over by the exuberance of the super ripe Barbera.

60% Barbera, 40% Nebbiolo, aged in new French oak. Youthful ruby. Soft and leafy cherry nose with only a hint of new oak. The oak is much better integrated in this wine than in the the Larigi. Lovely mouthful of succulent blueberry and cherry fruit with grainy tannins. Complete and delicious. (WS)
The 2014 La Villa is supple and inviting. The 60% Barbera/40% Nebbiolo blend works nicely within the context of the year. The dark tonalities of Barbera fruit with the aromatics and tannic underpinning of Nebbiolo yield an attractive, mid-weight wine to drink now and over the next handful of years.
