A medium brick/red hue, the 2013 Brunello Di Montalcino is lifted in the glass with aromas of cranberries, bright red cherries, crushed roses, fresh herbs, and fresh earth, and it's showing wonderful depth and complexity considering it's over ten years old. The palate has a very fresh feel, and while it's starting to integrate nicely with its tannins, its overall structure is not fading, and it still has plenty of life ahead. Drink 2025-2035. Based in Castelnuova dell'Abate, Andrea Cortonesi leads his family estate, as well as their more recent wines of Voliero, which can also found in this report.

The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino takes its time opening in the glass, revealing notes of dusty rose and crushed plums, complicated by earth tones and worn leather. Elegant and refined, this casts velvety textures across the palate, lifted by zesty acidity as mineral-tinged red berries and savory spices saturate. Fine tannins slowly mount toward the close. The 2013 turns inward through the finish, leaving a caking of grippy tannins and a crunchy sensation that lingers on as hints of clove fade. Hands off for the time being—this powerful Brunello is built for the cellar.
I never have enough praise for the excellent work achieved at Uccelliera. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is another proud notch in Andrea Cortonesi's belt. This is a fine and elegant wine that wraps smoothly over the palate. It also has an immediate and accessible personality that means you don't need to wait too long to enjoy it. The wine is redolent of dark fruit, spice, balsam herb, licorice and pressed flowers. You get loads of variety character.
Maturing mid ruby with bricky tinges. Smoky, stalky nose and ripe, accessible and easy-going on the palate. Hints of dried fruit on the finish and chewy tannins. (WS) (JR)
