The nose is a relatively bold, modern representation of Volnay, though with some impressive classical purity too. The palate, though, is on the chunkier side. Just a bit stodgy. (AH)

(hail held production here to 15 hectoliters per hectare): Healthy medium red. Enticing red and darker fruits on the nose. Juicy and on the lean side, with noteworthy definition and lift to the flavors of dark berries and licorice. Ultimately a rather pliant village wine but with a firm tannic spine and good finishing energy.
A hail survivor? Bright crimson. Attractive, almost flatteringly scented. Lots of charming fruit overwhelms the palate. There’s a bit of tannin under here, culminating in quite a dry but long finish, but this is absolutely textbook Volnay and GV . (JR)
The 2013 Volnay Village has a pretty crisp bouquet with lifted fresh strawberry and Morello scents that are well defined. The palate has plenty of energy on the entry with a citric line of acidity, fine depth with an effervescent, sorbet-like freshness toward the finish. This is actually one of my picks from the domaine this year given the price.
