Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2018-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Aug 2018

Varietal tones of Cabernet Franc are the dominant force in the 2011 Lodovico (that also sees an important bending element of Petit Verdot). This wine exudes power and muscular determination with a long tail of ripe black fruit that follows at the end. This was a very warm vintage, and the wine stops extremely short of tasting overtly jammy—although the careful nature of its fruit maturity and sweetness is quite evident nonetheless. Some extra perspective and sharpness is given by the dusty mineral notes that frame the wine.

Clear Cabernet Franc character on the nose, with the classic herbal notes and ripe raspberry fruit. No hint of dried fruit here. Finer, more fluent and more gripping than the older vintages and with better integrated alcohol. Really long and concentrated with a full aromatic spread on the finish. (WS)

A firm, sexy red with minerals, blackberries and rose petals. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and an intense finish. So long. The hot-stone character and ripe fruit go on for minutes here. The most complex, refined Lodvoico ever. 95% cabernet franc and 5% merlot. Needs time to soften: better in 2016.

The Cabernet Franc-based 2011 Lodovico is compelling. Dark raspberry jam, grilled herbs, smoke, scorched earth blossom in a deep, remarkably pure wine built on breadth and texture. The wine freshens up nicely in the glass, with hints of rose petals and sweet spices that add complexity. Layers of dark red fruit wrap around the resonant, highly expressive finish.
