The 2019 Meursault La Sève du Clos is brilliant, unfurling in the glass with aromas of peach, pear, wheat toast, orange oil and honeycomb, framed by a subtle touch of youthful reduction. Medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, it's a seamless, layered wine with huge reserves of concentration and structuring extract, underpinned by a racy spine of acidity. This is an especially elegant Sève du Clos that's one of the finest renditions of this cuvée I've ever tasted chez Ente.

A selection from En l’Ormeau. Vines more than 120 years old (the oldest in Meursault, planted after the phylloxera of 1884 hit Ormeau) that had never been replanted so he set to to revitalise these ancient vines in 1999. Average yield is usually under 30 hl/ha and was just 18 hl/ha in 2019. The total quantity keeps reducing as the vines age. Light racking a month ago. Just two barrels and the odd bonbonne. All his topping is done with the original wine. Tank sample. History on the nose – great intensity and some smokiness. Real grip and structure with refinement and persistence. Truffle notes. (JR)
