The 2019 Meursault Village unwinds in the glass with aromas of pear, wheat toast, white flowers and orange oil, framed by a discreet touch of youthful reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a pretty core of fruit, racy acids and a bright, mouthwatering finish, it derives from two lieux-dits: En l'Ormeau on the plain (which is also the source of Ente's Clos des Ambres and Sève du Clos bottlings) and Les Casse-Têtes on the hillside; the vines having been planted in 1952–1953 and 1998, respectively.

60% fruit from En l’Ormeau (1.6 ha!) and 40% from Les Casse-Têtes lieux-dits. Barrels, demi-muids and foudres. Some young vines but not all. Replacement vines planted 1999 in Sève du Clos go into this wine. From Meursault plots both high (four to five days later ripening) and low with different ripeness levels. In all, seven plots contribute to this wine (Clos des Ambres plots 1 to 3, Meursault young vines, Meursault high, Meursault low plus Sève du Clos young vines). Tank sample. Quite rich on the nose. Much more friendly than some tenser earlier vintages. Hint of lilies. (JR)
