The San Polo 2017 Brunello di Montalcino (made with organic fruit) opens to a really fun and unique bouquet. I found aromas of dried herb, oregano and wild licorice, which I don't find in other wines from this vintage. There is also a pretty floral component that actually outpaces those characteristic aromas of cherry and redcurrant that you always get with Sangiovese. This wine has that extra layer of balsam intensity that sets it apart in a crowd. Production is 28,600 bottles.

Maturing mid ruby with narrow bricky rim. Dark and spicy rather than fruity on the nose. With aeration shy cherry turns up in the glass. More energetic on the palate with marasca cherry but with quite stubborn tannins. (WS)
The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows depths of black raspberry and cherry fruit complemented by a whiff of sweet mint. While it’s a bit linear, this impresses more on its balance and focus, as silky textures cast a polished display of red and hints of blue fruit across the palate. A twang of sour citrus mixes with savory herbal tones through the finale, where nuanced tannins help to punctuate the experience nicely.
