The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is a gorgeous entry-level wine from Massolino. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, cinnamon and a kick of orange peel all grace this exquisite, inviting wine. The 2021 spent a year in cask, longer than required for Barbaresco, for reference.

12 days on the skins. Aged for one year in oak cask. Sample 1 : Stoppered with Diam 5. Lustrous youthful ruby. A little peppery and quite closed with subdued perfumed cherry and a subtle lees note. Supple cherry with crunchy tannins on the palate. Sample 2 : Stoppered with Nomacork Green 100. Lustrous youthful ruby. Still a tiny bit closed but more expressive and full on the palate. Quite spectacular combination of crunchy tannins and lively, fresh and still very youthful fruit. (WS)
Their most approachable Nebbiolo contains fruit from young Barolo vines and from some outside Barolo. They could call it Nebbiolo d’Alba but they think the consumer doesn’t really understand the difference. Pale garnet. Smoky nose. Sweet start and pure character of Nebbiolo without too much tannin or acid. Easy to like! Designed to be an introduction to Barolo. Long and neat.Very pure and polished. GV (cf £55 RRP per bottle for their Barolo Classico). (JR)
