Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2019

The 2014 Campo di Camagi is the most nuanced and also deepest of these three Cabernet Francs. Understated and gracious, yet with terrific flavor intensity, the Campo di Camagi hits all the right notes. Lavender, spice, menthol, black cherry and plum are all beautifully delineated in this expressive, translucent Franc. The combination of fruit depth and savoriness makes for a highly compelling wine.

100% Cabernet Franc. Harvested 18 October. Magnum. Very dark crimson. Heady, complex, polished – intense Margaux-type nose. Very very sweet and full. Very very sweet and full. Polished and very bordelais. Massively sweet, ripe fruit. Lots of polished tannins. The most youthful of the three Campo 2014 Cabernet Francs. Bright and energetic but with a layer of ripeness and lots of tannins. Almost austere but all the ingredients for a great, long life. (JR)

Very dark crimson indeed. Deep and dark and rather mysterious on the nose. Ripe and almost inky. Lots of fine tannin. Really rather sumptuous. Very fine tannins but still quite youthful, introvert, tannic and embryonic. Dry tannins on the end – presumably a reflection of the vintage. Very taut and so tannic that the aroma of Cabernet Franc is slightly subsumed. (JR)

The 2014 Campo di Camagi is the most complete wine among the three single vineyard expressions of Cabernet Franc now being highlighted by vintner Andrea Franchetti. Fruit yields from this two-hectare vineyard are lower in Campo di Camagi with six clusters per vine compared to eight to ten clusters per vine in the other plots. The site shows blue clay under the surface with gravel and small stones at the top. This soil composition makes it very difficult for the plant's root system to penetrate. As Franchetti puts it: "This wine is made from very stressed fruit." Of course, in wine speak, this is a very good thing, resulting in a wine that shows bigger density, opulence and overall concentration. This Cabernet Franc opens to a blackish color and thick aromas that raise heavily and slowly from the glass. The vines are 25-years-old. Balckberry and dried cherry segues to sassy spice and tobacco. This is a wine for the cellar.
