The 2018 Barbaresco Albesani is shut down for a south-facing site that tends to give richer wines. I very much admire the energy, but I am not sure the fruit will ever fully emerge. Crushed rocks, white pepper, mint and chiseled Nebbiolo fruit are nicely delineated. The tannins remain searing in their intensity, though. The Cantina del Pino Barbarescos have a track record of opening beautifully with a few years in bottle. Let's hope that will be the case here. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle anytime soon.

Very true to the Nebbiolo grape, the Cantina del Pino 2018 Barbaresco Albesani reveals an especially bright and lifted character with tart berry fruit and crushed roses. Poised for long cellar aging, the wine is coiled tight in terms of tannins and texture at this young stage in its drinking window. Give it ample time to unwind.
Neive. Pale ruby. Compact and tight on the nose but clearly showing pedigree with minerally notes and saline, savoury red fruit. Truly captivating but takes its time to open up and has a kind of noble austerity to it. Slow on the palate too, and with jewel-like embryonic fruit and finely chiselled, very long and present tannins. Still very tight and needs time to unfurl, but will be worth the wait. (WS)
