Punteggio 89+/100 · Da bere 2024-2034, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2018 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru has a delightful bouquet with white flower tinged citrus fruit, and a touch of struck flint. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, backward yet focused, a fine mineral core that I suspect will need time in bottle to really show through. I scored this lower than when I tasted this Chablis at the domaine last year, but I suspect it will meliorate in the coming months. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru is in possession of the best aromatics this vintage, presenting sea spray, cockle shell and orange pith scents. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a slightly waxy texture and a touch of bitter lemon and fine salinity on the finish. This should drink well for 8–10 years.

Vocoret's 2018 Chablis Butteaux 1er Cru is pure class. A wine of tension and energy, the Butteaux offers terrific detail, especially within the context of the year. Mint, crushed rocks, jasmine, pear are all finely cut in this wonderfully expressive wine. The 2018 is shaping up to be a real gem.

The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Les Butteaux is also performing well, bursting with expressive aromas of apple, pear, white flowers and Meyer lemon. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and lively, retaining—like all the Vocorets' 2018s—good energy and tension despite the warm vintage, and concluding with a saline finish.
