The 2020 Chablis Butteaux 1er Cru has a crisp and mineral-driven bouquet that overcomes that summer's warmth to really express its terroir with style. Fine oak integration is evident here. The palate is fresh and mineral-driven, citrus fresh with impressive nerve and tension, conveying a sense of energy towards the slightly peachy finish. Excellent, but it needs time to subsume the veneer of oak. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru has a focused bouquet that feels a little austere at first but soon warms up, delivering superb mineral tension. The palate is where the action is: gorgeous lime and orange zest notes, great depth and an effervescent finish that beckons you back for another sip. This is outstanding and flirts with Grand Cru in quality.
