The 2020 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru Cuvée Guy Moreau has a light lemon thyme and crushed rock bouquet, which is discrete at first, though well defined, and it evolves more complexity as it opens in the glass. The palate is very pleasing in that it carries a subtle reduction without compromising the complexity and nuance of this Chablis. It fans impressively towards the finish, completing a lovely and peachy Chablis Vaillons that should give 10 to 12 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

From a separate 1-ha (2.5-acre) parcel of vines planted in 1933 by Guy Moreau. Farmed organically. Mid lemon; chamomile and white flowers. Zesty and driven. Extra dimension given by the oak. (MH)
The 2020 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru Cuvée Guy Moreau has much more precision than the regular cuvée this year; struck flint notes come though nicely with aeration mixed with green apple and a slight loamy scent. The palate is well balanced with grapefruit and lemon zest and builds nicely towards a harmonious and quite persistent finish. Excellent.
The 2020 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru Cuvée Guy Moreau is very expressive on the nose, not dissimilar to the regular cuvée: quite floral, with honeysuckle and jasmine, but a little spicier, perhaps. The palate is nicely poised, tensile and harmonious, delivering blood orange and apricot notes on the entry and a touch of grilled almond and crushed stone on the finish. Very good potential.
