2019 Meursault Goutte d'Or

Mingling aromas of pear, green apple and citrus oil with hints of white flowers and toasted nuts, the 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or is medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, with a deep and concentrated core girdled by bright acids and underpinned by chalky dry extract. Long and penetrating, this is promising.

The 2019 Meursault Goutte d'Or 1er Cru has plenty of freshness on the nose, the scents of crushed stone, mirabelle, Japanese yuzu and blood orange all beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh, delivering impressive weight toward the finish. Just missing a little length on the aftertaste, perchance, but it remains very fine.

30-year-old vines. The clay of Le Porusot and the poor soils of Les Bouchères at the same time. 0.4 ha. Cask sample. Notably fresh, it tastes somehow like green oil. Very satin textured with green acidity quite evident at the moment. A little heavy on the end. As Dominique points out, it’s a wine close to the ‘buttery’ Meursault stereotype of old. (JR)
