Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2025-2045, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jul 2022

The 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is a terrific success, unfurling in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers, confit citrus and oatmeal. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and complete, it's fleshy and seamless, with fine depth at the core, racy acids and a long, expansive finish. After several years where this site bore the brunt of hail and frost, Montée de Tonnerre is back with a vengeance.

Tank sample. The nose has a beautiful jasmine note alongside chalky and stony freshness. White peach and honeycomb. Superb concentration and intensity of fruit, rounded and rich with a lovely defined palate and finish. Detailed as well as opulent. (AC)

'A wine for Chablis lovers because of its freshness', according to Séguier. Ripens late, always picked towards the end of harvest. 2.2 ha in three different plots: one high and east-facing on clay and marl; one south-facing on deep soil at the bottom of the hill; and one west-facing and high with the oldest vines, planted in 1936 by William's father. Pretty firm and full on the nose. Needs quite a bit of time. Lots of impact on the palate with real precision – seems like a well-etched statue. Still youthful but with enough juice and an appetisingly dry finish. (JR)

(from a 2.24 ha holding that is divided between Pied d’Aloup, Côte de Bréchain and Chapelot). A cool, pure and airy nose also reflects notes of mineral reduction and citrus zest along with more prominent floral and iodine nuances. The sleek, refined and beautifully delineated middle weight flavors possess a bracing salinity on the sneaky long and well-balanced finale. Like several wines in the range, this needs to develop better depth but it is very stylish and should age effortlessly so more complexity should eventually manifest itself. (91-94)/2030+
