Double magnum served at Caractère by Véronique Drouhin. A very ripe vintage. Almost black! Sweet, dense, smooth and rich. One of those wines that some burgundy lovers dislike as being atypical. (JR)

Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Fresh redcurrant scent, integrated herby complexity. Tension between the red and green flavours gives attractive layering. Light tannins, fresh acid, medium body, but finishes with more gusto: there is warmth and power at the end. (RH)
The 2020 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru, which comes from deeper soils than the Beaune Grèves, has a mixture of red and black fruit and is a touch more expressive with a discrete marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, very layered with a gentle but insistent grip on the finish. This is one of the finest Clos des Mouches that I have tasted.
