Da bere 2026-2035, FINE+RARE, Aug 2021

La Moutonne is the flagship Grand Cru monopole of Domaine Long-Depaquit. It is a natural amphitheatre that stretches across the Grands Crus of Vaudésir and Les Preuses. The 2020 is fabulously well balanced on the nose with mineral lift, as well as power and weight. The minerality on the palate beautifully reflects this monopole’s capacity to transmit terroir. The calcareous soils bring a touch of gunflint that nicely integrates with the fresh white fruit flavours and mouth-watering freshness. The mid-palate is playful and elegant and airy. The finish is long and crunchy with great structural complexity. Superb. Best enjoyed after six or seven years’ cellaring.

Monopole. TA (sulphuric) 3.75 g/l, TA (tartaric) 5.74 g/l, pH 3.3. 14 months' ageing, no new oak. Cask sample. Full-bodied, ripe and exotic (for Chablis) there is great purity here with plenty of acidity to promote long-term ageing. Apple fruit with a touch of creamy almond on the finish. I suspect this has a great future ahead of it. (AWH) 13%

The 2020 Chablis Moutonne Grand Cru shows quite a bit of reduction on the nose, which is unsurprising given how young it is. The palate is fresh and crisp with a fine line of acidity, touches of blood orange and quince, and fine salinity developing toward the finish. This is very primal at present and needs to cohere, but there is plenty of potential.
